About Linda Farrell
Linda Farrell has been teaching pilates mat for the last 22 years at Equinox and Broadway Dance Center. Students marvel at how long and lean they feel after one of her inspiring classes. Linda’s clear articulation, poise and precise cueing make for her unique style and distinguish her as one of the most popular pilates mat teachers in New York City.
Linda’s initial training was at the Pilates Studio of Physical and Mental Body Conditioning (Studio) in New York City where she studied with master teacher, Romana Kryzanowska. After completing her certification in 1993, Linda worked for the Studio training students on both the mat and apparatus. Soon after she discovered she had a unique talent for describing and articulating the mat exercises to her students. Linda took this skill with her to the Equinox Health Clubs where she pioneered the Pilates Mat program introducing the first mat class in the winter of 1994. Achieving great success and acclaim for her Equinox mat classes, Linda left the Studio and devoted her time and energy to developing the Pilates Mat program at Equinox. Within a short time, Linda implemented a Pilates Mat program at Broadway Dance Center. Still teaching at both facilities, Linda happily calls Equinox and the Broadway Dance Center her "home away from home".
Linda Farrell’s popularity and success as a pilates mat teacher have propelled her to the forefront in her field. Linda has conducted teacher-training workshops at major dance conferences such as Broadway Dance's, The Pulse Annual Teacher Workshop, and The Annual Dance Teacher Conference. She has also taught at fitness conferences such as The Pilates Method Alliance, Pilatesstyle, The East Coast Alliance, and the Fitness Factory.
She has appeared as a Pilates expert in diverse media such as Live with Regis and Kelly, FOX News, The Today Show, and Good Morning America, and has been featured in publications such as USA Today, Pilatesstyle, Elle, Woman’s Day, Good Housekeeping, Vogue, The Daily News, Shape and Fitness. She also has her own series of Pilates tapes and DVDs called Core Conditioning, her own classic pilates mat DVD and two Gaiam pilates with props DVDs.
Linda Farrell has developed her own educational programs including a full LindaFit Pilates Mat Certification Program, as well as workshops in Pilates Mat: Intermediate to Advanced Repetory, Magic Circle, Mini Ball, Stretch Band, LindaFit Mat Variations and Basic Anatomy.
Since 1994, Linda has been an ACE certified personal trainer and continues to work with private clients. To satisfy her curiosity and enhance her knowledge, Linda has studied regularly with renowned anatomist, Irene Dowd, at the Kane School of Core Integration in New York City, and through a special program administered by the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Linda has also immersed herself in the study of Qigong and incorporates some of the movements and ideas into her classes.
Linda earned her BA in Economics at the State University of N.Y. in Oneonta, and an MBA in Marketing from Baruch College, graduating magna cum laude from both institutions. She was a bond analyst for three years at Moody’s Investors Service, before pursuing her passion for movement and fitness and becoming a Pilates Instructor and Educator.
